Bobbi Brown Starter Kit

The first makeup product I ever owned was from Bobbi Brown. It was a lip gloss, Rose Sugar, and it was much smaller than the glosses in her current range. I also bought her book, Teenage Beauty, and started learning more about the power woman behind the brand. I even looked into applying to Emerson College in Boston because she had gone there! Needless to say, I’ve loved the brand for about 12 years.

What I love most about the brand is her idea of accentuating and playing up your features, rather than caking your face with foundation, and piling on dark shadow and tons of black liner. Instead of looking like they are wearing a lot of makeup, the girls of Bobbi’s Pretty Powerful campaigns look like themselves, only more beautiful and glowing.

I wanted to write this post because this is the brand that really started my love affair with makeup 12 years ago. I own a lot of Bobbi Brown products, but if you are new to the brand, here are the stand-out products I think that you should start with:

Creamy Concealer Kit: This kit contains a concealer and setting powder in one cute little compact. The concealer is so creamy and non drying, completely covers dark circles with only a little bit of product, and stays put all day long.

Pot Rouge: There is a color for everyone, it blends beautifully on the cheeks and looks equally as good patted on the lips. I own Blushed Rose but have had my eyes on Uber Beige and Pale Pink!

Shimmer Brick Compact: This shimmering finely milled powder makes for a beautiful highlight on the cheek bones, and looks lovely when applied to the eyelids, too!

Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner: A lot of brands have tried to duplicate this product, and though they come close, there is only one Bobbi Brown gel liner. This liner applies smoothly at first, but once it dries it does not budge until you remove it.

Rich Lip Color: I love these because they are creamy, extremely long-lasting, but not at all drying. A couple of my favorite shades are Lilac and Bare Pink.

Lip Gloss: I have always been a huge fan of Bobbi’s lip gloss formula, and the plain formula (not brightening, shimmer, or rich color gloss) is my favorite. It is a bit sticky, but I prefer it that way because this is what makes it last on the lips. There is a color out there for everyone, but my two favorites are Buff and Pink Lily – both are very nicely pigmented. Buff is the perfect nude-pink gloss that is great for fall, and Pink Lily is hands down the prettiest pink lip gloss I own (*and it’s limited edition so grab it while you can!).
