I have never actually watched the Vampire Diaries so when I was asked to do a “Katerina” look, I wasn’t sure what that entailed. I became even more confused when I found out that actress Nina Dobrev has three different names on the show. After having performed a bit of research and looking at several photos, I understand why the show is a hit and the fact that there are already a considerable amount of Katherine and Elena hair and makeup tutorials out there!
Katherine, or “Katerina,” wears a dark brown-grey smokey eye with a natural cheek color and neutral brown-berry lips. To be more true to the character, I even curled my hair [with a straightener – basically the only way I know how] and threw on a black leather jacket!
Face: I applied my Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation with fingertips, and then concealed underneath my eyes with the new Revlon Age Defying Targeted Dark Spot Concealer Treatment [loving this so far – full review to come]. To complete my base I powdered through the center of my face with my Rimmel Stay Matte Powder.
Eyes: As a base I applied Mac Shroom all over the lids, up to the brow bone. Next, I took Mac Charcoal Brown onto the lids, blending with a Mac 217 brush. To add depth and smoke out the eyes I applied Mac Mystery to the crease, extending the shade outwards and then blended with the 217 brush to get rid of any harsh lines. To add definition I applied Maybelline Black Gel Eyeliner to my upper lash line, and took a bit of Mystery onto the outer half of my lower lash line. In a lot of the photos I looked at Katherine appeared to be wearing a white or flesh-toned liner on her water line, so I used Nyx Wonder Pencil in Light. To finish the eye look I applied several coats of Maybelline The Falsies Mascara to top and bottom lashes.
Cheeks: To achieve a naturally flushed cheek look I applied Rande James Mineral Blush in Sunset, concentrating the color on the apples of my cheeks and then blending upwards.
Lips: I first applied Trish McEvoy Lipstick in Natural straight from the tube, and then sheered the color out by blending it with a fingertip. For a little bit of added moisture and shine, I applied Painted Earth Cosmetics Baby Hint of Mint Lip Gloss in Mint Mauve* overtop.
