When it comes to foundation I have tried and tested a wide variety at both department stores and drugstores. Although my favorite foundation of all time is Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk [which costs a pretty penny], I have a lot of love for a few at the drugstore. The foundations listed below are the best of their kind at the drugstore, and have never irritated my combination skin.
- Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation: If you’ve been following my blog for a while, it should come as no surprise that this medium coverage, super blendable foundation is my absolute favorite when it comes to drugstore foundations, and is a very close second to Luminous Silk. The formula is not too thick, not too thin – the perfect balance to create a flawless finish. I only need a small amount of product to use on my entire face, and I rarely have to use a concealer to cover blemishes after I have put this on. The shade Classic Ivory matches my skin better than any other foundation I’ve tried, and I usually only have to powder once throughout the entire day.
- L’Orea True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup: This foundation gives off the most dewy, luminous finish out of the bunch. I own the shade W1-2 Porcelain/Light Ivory, which is also a good match for my fair skin. It provides a medium coverage, a bit lighter than Rimmel’s Match Perfection, and I find that because of the glow-y finish, I have to powder a bit more often throughout the day. I think that this formula is great for those with dryer skin types, but also works well with combination skin as long as you don’t mind carrying around a face powder for quick touch-ups. Another major plus for this product goes to the packaging – it has a pump! This makes application super easy and I never have too much product left over on the back of my hand [two pumps is enough for my entire face and neck]. My only complaint with this foundation is that it doesn’t last as long as I’d like it to – I find that it starts to wear off around my cheeks and nose after 7 hours of wear.
- Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation: I have repurchased this foundation not once, but twice! The formula of Nearly Naked provides a light to medium coverage, and is buildable. I think that it has the most natural finish of the bunch [not as dewy as True Match Lumi], but may not be enough for those with more oily skin types. I often have to add extra concealer over blemishes when I wear this foundation, however, it has greater lasting power and doesn’t wear off during the day like True Match Lumi. I think that this is a great, light foundation for summer that evens out the skin and stays put all day with Rimmel Stay Matte Powder overtop.
- Neutrogena SkinClearing Oil-Free Makeup: This foundation provides the most coverage of the bunch, and the formula is considerably thicker. I find that it is a bit heavy for everyday wear, but I tend to reach for it when I’m breaking out or am experiencing more redness than usual. It feels a bit tacky once applied, but that can be taken care of with a bit of face powder. Aside from those minor complaints, I think that this is a great, full-coverage foundation that provides a flawless finish and has incredible lasting power.
