When I was asked by Shari’s Berries to post how berries inspire me in the spring, my first thought was “strawberries, I love strawberries!” However, when I looked through my makeup collection and closet, I couldn’t find anything strawberry-related. But, when I opened my refrigerator the other day, it clicked – raspberries. You can almost always find fresh raspberries and raspberry jam in our apartment [never make a PBJ without raspberry jam. never.]; and, raspberries comprise my favorite breakfast, stuffed french toast [find my recipe here].
One way I incorporate raspberries into my spring style is in my warm weather diet. I tend to eat much more fruit in the spring and summer than I do in the colder months; a bowl of fresh raspberries or a bit of frozen yogurt topped with raspberries is so refreshing after a hot summer day [not to mention healthier than chocolate peanut butter ice cream].
When I put more thought into my love for raspberries and how I incorporate the color, in addition to the fruit, into my style, it hit me – Stila’s Lip Glaze in Raspberry. This gloss and I go way back, as it was one of the first makeup products I have ever purchased. I can honestly remember the day I walked into Sephora at either 14 or 15 years old to buy my first tube; I had been working as a hostess at a luncheonette on Long Island, and was proud that I was able to afford this gloss, which was, to date, the most expensive makeup product I was going to purchase. I was so intrigued by these click-pen type glosses, and I really contemplated which color I was going to pick up. I decided on Raspberry because I loved the name, scent, and most of all, the color. It was fun, bright and girly, without being too much for a young girl to wear.
As I was walking around JCrew a couple of years ago, I noticed a few Stila products in one of the displays close to the register; I felt a tinge of nostalgia when I saw Raspberry, and couldn’t leave the store without it. Raspberry began my love affair with sheer bright glosses, my absolute favorite type of lip color to wear in the spring and summer. It also, arguably, began my love affair with makeup more generally, and for that, Stila, I am grateful!
I hope you enjoyed this slightly different type of post – please share how berries inspire you in the spring and summer, and whether there is a berry-colored makeup product that you can’t live without!
