Happy Monday, guys! I hope you all had an awesome weekend. Mine was pretty relaxing – filled with great food, my favorite wine [Vino Verde], and, a little shopping. Over the weekend I stopped into CVS to pick up a couple of things and spotted a small display of the new Maybelline The Nudes eyeshadow palettes. I decided to go for it after I looked the palette over, and saw that it contains both matte and shimmer shadows in warm and cool toned shades. I’ve been playing around with the palette the past two days, and, I have to say, I am impressed with the color selection and quality of the shadows.
To me, the only shades that are disappointing are the top left shade [not very pigmented and applies a bit splotchy], and the bottom right shade – but I feel like most people own a good black shadow, so the fact that this particular black doesn’t have good color payoff doesn’t really bother me.
My favorite shades out of the palette are the bottom three shades, starting from the left of the palette. You can create a really quick look by taking the bottom left shade all over the lid, applying the next shade in to the crease and outer-v, and then applying the gold shade to the inner corners. I also really like the two shades [top and bottom] that are the fourth shades in from the left; they are really smooth, have great color payoff, and are perfect for achieving a bronzey-brown smokey eye. For a highlight shade, the fifth shade in on the bottom row is great.
I know you’re probably thinking [I admit I was] that this palette is similar to others – namely, the Urban Decay Naked Palette. But, if you’re new to eyeshadow [there are a few different tutorials on the back of the palette!], or, if you need a good neutral palette that you can travel with due to its compact size, I think that this one is definitely worth checking out. I love my Naked palette, but this is an awesome drugstore alternative AND – I didn’t experience any fallout when I applied the shades to my lids.
What do you think – will you be giving Maybelline The Nudes a go?
