Let’s Discuss: Meaningful Makeup

I admit that the title of this post sounds a bit silly – but my makeup junkie’s know what I’m talking about. I have a few products that I could never part with, not because I use them everyday, but because they mean something to me; they represent and remind me of a significant point in my life, and when I pull them out of storage I am reminded of that special day or moment.

The three most meaningful products to me are [no surprise here] lip products! I purchased YSL’s Rouge Pur lipstick in 147, a really pretty, natural browny-nude about five years ago. I wore it a ton when my fiance first started dating; it reminds me of how nervous [in a good way] I would get when we would see each other after a month of being apart, and all of the delicious dinners he took me to in the city at the beginning of our relationship. Just smelling this lipstick brings me back.

Fast forward a couple of years . . . I picked up Bobbi Brown’s  Creamy Lip Color in Crystal Pink after we had moved in together in Virginia Beach. He was away on a mini deployment, and to keep myself occupied [and also from going crazy] living in a town where I had no family and few friends, I made an appointment at the Bobbi Brown counter at a nearby mall. Whenever I whip out this lipstick I remember the tough adjustment of moving away from home, and more importantly, that I was able to overcome this by learning how to cook and bake, and really experience things on my own.

Lastly, I have to mention Bobbi Brown’s Lip Gloss in Popsicle – a little present to myself for finishing my first year of law school. Now I have to ask you guys – do you own any products that are particularly meaningful to you? Please share your stories in the comments!

This was such a nice post Sarah! I know what you mean about meaningful makeup! I have a few lipsticks that remind me of when me and my boyfriend first started dating! I also have a perfume from that time as well and it brings back good memories! xx

I really loved this post Sarah! It’s so true that we associate things with memories and I have a few products as well. I also have jewellery and knick nacks that I could never throw away.
