Mix + Match

I often find that my favorite lip/eye/cheek looks are achieved using more than one product. A product cocktail, if you will.

What’s funny is that for some reason I’ve always preferred my makeup this way. I remember being in 7th or 8th grade, and my friend asking me what eyeshadow I had on. To that I said something like “oh it’s a bunch of things…” no doubt Stila’s Kitten was one of them. Now, I don’t mean applying and blending 6 eyeshadows together on an everyday basis. More like, a shimmer powder or cream base, plus a glitter or gloss top coat. Just enhances things, makes the lids a bit more interesting. Try a shade from CT’s Modern Muse or Golden Goddess palette, or Maybelline’s Glo Down [such a gorgeous drugstore shadow], plus a small amount of Milk Makeup’s Eye Vinyl tapped onto the center of lids.

On cheeks, I definitely love to layer it on. Not necessarily all in the same place, though. I’ll apply a blush to the apples, like Glossier’s Cloud Paint in Beam, then, to add a little gleam I take a Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick, and apply it slightly overtop of the blush, only a little higher. Lastly, I’ll use a highlighter, like Glossier’s Haloscope, and apply right on top, and a little above, my cheek bones.

I’ve always had a thing for laying lip color/product. One of my favorite ways to layer is actually to apply a lip gloss first, and then apply a lipstick overtop to sort of tone down the color, and make things look a bit more natural. I really like doing this with one of my current faves – Charlotte Tilbury’s Bosworth’s Beauty, a gorgeous hot pink. I’ll apply Glossier’s Lip Gloss or Dior’s Lip Glow Pomade, then tap the color on, and finally blend with a finger.

Do you love layering product as well? What are your favorite combos/concoctions?

I love layering mascaras! My favorite combo is Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara (one coat) and Benefit Roller Lash Mascara (one coat).
